High Iodine Value Soybean Fatty Acid for Faster-Drying Urushi Lacquer
High-iodine-value soybean fatty acid (135–150), which increases the density of unsaturated double bonds. This accelerates oxygen uptake and oxidative cross-linking at room temperature.
🧑‍🔬 Test results:
• Surface dry time reduced to 1/3–1/2 of conventional urushi (typically 4–8 hours, humidity-dependent)
• Through-dry time shortened — next process step (sanding/recoating) possible within 24–48 hours in most cases
• Maintains the characteristic transparency, warm feel and depth of traditional urushi lacquer
🌳 The approach combines a renewable raw material with improved drying performance while preserving key properties of natural lacquer.
